LTHP Simple BETA app for Android devices

The student will not be able to exit the tutorial app until he/she has completed the homework assignment.

The LTHP DELTA Solution provides a tool to control your child’s device and set conditions for different types of applications (learning and other applications).

The LearnTHENPlay project

Background:

The partner organisations of the project have previously worked on a number of projects using mobile devices and various digital solutions to support the learning process of disadvantaged children. In their experience, solutions using educational games and/or gamified framework stories have proven to be very useful to support the learning process. In some situations, notably in out-of-school activities specifically for disadvantaged children, the promise of ‘free play’ after the end of the learning programme proved to be an even stronger motivation. However, the manual control of 12-20 devices in an out-of-school classroom is always a very demanding task for teachers and session leaders, especially as they also have to control the content of the ‘free sessions’ if they want to prevent unwanted or harmful play/content. The use of specific monitoring applications can make the job easier, but none of these applications is automatically linked to the learning performance of the pupils.

The development aims to:

We are developing a digitally supported methodology based on collaboration between teachers and parents/guardians to support students’ learning efforts.

The project will develop an innovative methodology based on a specific ICT support system that will:

  • It allows parents/guardians to use the desire for online playtime as a motivational tool to help students’ performance;
  • To create a framework for cooperation between schools and parent communities, more specifically between school teachers and parents/guardians, to work together effectively on a weekly/day basis to support pupils’ learning outside the classroom;
  • It puts the principles of differentiated teaching into practice by using adaptive learning pathways that allow each learner to progress at their own pace, moving quickly to the most difficult levels or spending more time on the basics.

Target group

  • Parents/carers who lack the tools (and knowledge) to use parental supervision of online activities.
  • Teachers who find that involving parents in the educational process is often difficult but essential.
  • Teachers who are also willing to use digital opportunities to help students perform better.
  • Students who perform better when offered personalised learning pathways.
  • And the institutions that are ready to cooperate.

The project will establish

  • a mobile-optimised maths and reading comprehension curriculum, with content developed for the needs of 8th grade students, based on the PISA test tasks and with a focus on competence development and differentiation (DIMAP)
  • a digital platform and homework checking app (LThP Platform), which aims to improve collaboration between teachers and parents/carers. Teachers can use the app to assign tasks to pupils, and parents can use a parental control app to link the free internet access given to pupils as an incentive to complete these tasks
  • content for parents, raising awareness of their central role and opportunities in the learning process and in supporting children (PROPA).
  • The educational package includes a set of methodological user guides for parents, teachers and students (COMMET),
  • and a dissemination toolkit (EET) to facilitate adaptation.
